Every February, stores are flooded with heart-shaped decorations, cuddly teddy bears, and boxes of chocolate-covered sweets in preparation for Valentine’s Day. But what if there was a way to incorporate that love-filled holiday into something that is not only decorative, but also practical?

XO Hot Pad Crochet Pattern

What you will need for the XO Hot Pad crochet pattern

  1. Worsted weight (#4) cotton yarn
  2. 125 yds
  3. 3.75mm (F) hook & 4.00 mm (G) hook
  4. Yarn Needle
  5. Scissors

Pattern Notes

* Advanced beginner pattern

** Written in US crochet terms

* Finished size: 8″acrossx8″tall.

** Gauge: 7 sc x 8 Rows = 2″.

* Ch st at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch, always place 1st stitch of each row in same stitch as beginning ch unless stated otherwise.

** Stitch count is only listed on each row when there is a change.

hdc = half double crochet

hdc3tog = half double crochet 3 together

Slst to join in the top right corner of the blocks.

Turning to work down the side, sk 1st Row end, puff edge st in next Row end. *Sk next Row end, puff edge st in next Row end; rep from *across, sk last Row end. (13 puff edge sts)

Step 5:

Turning to work across the bottom, 2 puff edge st in 1st st on bottom, *sk st, puff edge st ; rep from * across working 2 puff edge sts in the last st. (15 puff edge sts)

Step 6:

Turning to work up the next side, puff edge st in 2nd Row end, *sk st, puff edge st in next Row end; rep from *across, 1 puff edge st in same st as 1st puff edge st, slst to join to 1st hdc. See below to add optional hanging loop. (14 puff edge sts)

Finish off and weave in ends.
