This cute little hot pad is perfect to help protect those table tops and counters from hot pans. It works up very quickly and features fun texture using the Popcorn Stitch.

This is an advanced beginner pattern that I designed for the 14 Days of Hearts Blog Hop hosted by MadameStitch.
Inspiration
The new Sweetheart Hot Pad pattern is a spinoff from one of the blocks included in my SASSy Hearts Baby Blanket pattern. When I designed that block a few years back I had so many other ideas for the heart shape and couldn’t wait to share this one.
This sweet new crochet pattern is perfect to make for markets, for yourself or for gifting.

Design Details
Sweetheart Hot Pads are designed using #4 worsted weight cotton yarn. They do look adorable when you use acrylic yarn but I highly recommend cotton only as acrylic yarn will likely melt when placing a hot pan on it.
This hot pad is only designed to help protect your counters or tabletops when placing a hot pan or plate on it. It is not intended to pick up or remove hot items from an oven or stove. This does not replace an oven mitt.
The new Sweetheart Hot Pad is a beginner pattern that works up very quickly using a 5.00 mm (H) hook. You only need about 70 yards of cotton yarn per hot pad. They’re made in one piece and you will go down to a 3.75 mm (F) hook to complete the frilly border.

Sweetheart Hot Pad Crochet Pattern
What you will need for the Sweetheart Hot Pad crochet pattern
- #4 worsted weight cotton yarn
- 60 – 70 yards
- 3.75 mm (F) hook, 5.00 mm (H) hook
- Yarn Needle
- Scissors
Pattern Notes
- Advanced beginner pattern.
- Written in US crochet terms.
- Finished size: 7″ x 7″.
- Gauge: Not essential for this pattern.
- The ch stitch at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch. Always place 1st stitch of each row in same stitch as beginning chain unless stated otherwise.
- Stitch count is only listed on each round when there is a change.

sc = single crochet
PS = Popcorn Stitch

slst = slip stitch

With H hook, ch 25, turn.
Row 1:
sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (24 sc)

sc in each st across, ch 1, turn.

rep Row 2.

sc in next 11, PS in next 2, sc in next 11, ch 1, turn. (22 sc, 2 PS)
Row 7:
rep Row 2. (24 sc)
Row 8:
sc in next 9, PS, sc in next 4, PS, sc in next 9, ch 1, turn. (22 sc, 2 PS)
Row 9:
rep Row 2.
Row 10:
sc in next 7, PS, sc in next 8, PS, sc in next 7, ch 1, turn. (22 sc, 2 PS)

Row 27:
sc in each st across, ch 1, do not turn.
Do not finish off, continue with the border.
BORDER: With (F) hook.
NOTE: Slst in each row end on the sides and each stitch along the top and bottom.
Beginning in the same st that you just finished on Row 27, slst, ch 2, *slst in next 2, ch 2; rep from * around. Slst, ch 2, slst, ch 2 in each corner. In 4th corner, to make a hanging loop, slst, ch 9, slst.
Finish off and weave in ends.
