There’s something special about bringing out the fall decorations and setting the table with pieces you made yourself. The FALL Farmhouse Placemat adds that handmade touch with warm autumn colors, textured crochet blocks, the word FALL, and a little leaf detail worked into the design.
I originally designed this placemat in collaboration with Hobbii Yarn for the #HobbiiHomeCollection Challenge. Hobbii provided the Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8 yarn I used for my sample in Natural White, Toffee, Sage Green, and Almond.
The placemat uses the Mini Half Double Crochet Corner-to-Corner technique—Mini HDC C2C for short—and measures about 14″ × 17.5″. It’s a lovely fit for everyday fall meals or a Thanksgiving place setting.

Yarn & Design Details
For my original placemat, I used Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8 in Natural White, Toffee, Sage Green, and Almond. Natural White provides the background, Toffee brings out the FALL lettering and border, and the two smaller amounts of green and brown add the autumn leaf details.
The placemat is worked diagonally from the bottom right corner using Mini Half Double Crochet Corner-to-Corner. Each small block is made with three half double crochet stitches, giving the finished piece its distinct texture and helping the lettering stand out.
The design follows a 25 × 32-block graph and finishes at approximately 14″ × 17.5″. You can follow the row-by-row color instructions in the free pattern below, and the printable PDF also includes the graph.

This pattern uses Mini Half Double Crochet Corner-to-Corner (Mini HDC C2C) and color changes to create the lettering and leaves. The placemat is worked diagonally, so you’ll increase, work across the middle, and then decrease to finish the rectangle.

Materials
- DK / #3 weight cotton yarn, approximately 320 yards total per placemat. My sample uses Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8:
- Natural White (#2): 205 yards
- Toffee (#88): 102 yards
- Sage Green (#98): 8 yards
- Almond (#89): 5 yards
- 3.5 mm (E) crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Pattern Notes
- This pattern is written in US crochet terms.
- The finished placemat measures approximately 14″ × 17.5″.
- Gauge: 9 Mini C2C blocks = 5″.
- The placemat is worked diagonally from the bottom right corner using Mini Half Double Crochet Corner-to-Corner.
- Each C2C block is made with three half double crochet stitches.
- Odd-numbered rows are right-side (RS) rows and are read from right to left. Even-numbered rows are wrong-side (WS) rows and are read from left to right.
- Keep yarn ends on the wrong side of your work as you change colors.

How to Read the Rows
Each color letter is followed by the number of Mini C2C blocks to work in that color. For example, (w) × 1, (o) × 2 means work one block in Natural White, then two blocks in Toffee.
Follow the colors in the order written for each row. Odd-numbered RS rows are read from right to left; even-numbered WS rows are read from left to right.
