If you’re looking for a quick crochet beanie that’s warm, textured, and easy to stitch up, this one is perfect for those chilly fall and winter days. Designed for advanced beginners and up, it uses bulky weight (#5) yarn and my favorite Interlocking Row Stitch to create a beautifully textured hat with plenty of cozy warmth.

The Inspiration Behind the Everyday Bulky Beanie
The Everyday Bulky Beanie grew from my love for the simple texture and easy rhythm of my Everyday Collection. I wanted to take that same Interlocking Row Stitch I use throughout the collection and create a thicker, warmer beanie that could work up even faster with bulky yarn.
One of my favorite things about this stitch is how much texture it creates without making the pattern complicated. Paired with bulky weight yarn, it gives this beanie that cozy, squishy feel we all want when the weather turns cold — while still keeping the project simple enough to relax and enjoy.
And because this one can usually be finished in about an hour, it quickly became more than just another winter accessory. It’s a great pattern to reach for when you need a quick handmade gift, a craft market make, or several warm hats to donate to a local charity or community organization.

About the Everyday Bulky Beanie Crochet Pattern
The Everyday Bulky Beanie is designed with bulky weight (#5) yarn, which gives it that soft, squishy texture while helping it work up quickly. I used Loops & Threads Charisma for the beanies shown throughout this post, but you can use your favorite bulky yarn as long as you’re able to match the pattern gauge.
You’ll begin by crocheting the ribbed brim with a 5.5 mm hook, then switch to a 6.5 mm hook for the body of the beanie. From there, the hat is worked in the round using my Interlocking Row Stitch, a textured combination of single crochet, double crochet, and chain spaces.

One of the things I love most about this pattern is how quickly it comes together. Most crocheters can finish one in about an hour, making it a great choice when you need a last-minute handmade gift, want to build up craft-market inventory, or plan to crochet several warm hats for charity.
Finish yours with a fluffy pom pom for a little extra personality, or leave it plain for a simple, classic look.

The Everyday Bulky Beanies shown throughout this post were made with Loops & Threads Charisma, a bulky weight (#5) yarn that gives the finished hat a soft, cozy feel with plenty of texture. I used the colors Taupe and Red for the samples pictured here.
You can absolutely make this beanie with other bulky weight yarns too. The most important thing is choosing a yarn that helps you match the pattern gauge so your finished beanie comes out the correct size.
My wonderful testers — Stacy, Michele, and Patti — used a variety of yarns and color combinations for their beanies, and I love how different each one turned out! Their projects are a great example of how easily this pattern can be customized to fit your own style.
If you decide to substitute yarn, be sure to check your gauge before getting too far into the pattern, especially since bulky yarns can vary quite a bit in thickness from brand to brand.

Crochet for Charity 2026 Blog Hop
The Crochet for Charity Blog Hop 2026 takes place from September 6 through October 3, bringing together crochet designers who are sharing practical patterns for handmade items that can be donated to shelters, hospitals, community organizations, friends, or anyone who could use a little extra warmth.

Everyday Bulky Beanie Crochet Pattern
What you will need for the Everyday Bulky Beanie crochet pattern
- Bulky weight, (#5) yarn. (Designed with Loops & Threads CHARISMA)
- Small = 109 yds; Medium = 115 yds
- 5.50mm (I) hook & 6.5mm (K) hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Pattern Notes
* Advanced beginner pattern.
** Written in US crochet terms.
* Finished size when laid flat, Small: 9.5″ across x 8.75″ tall; Medium: 10″ across
x 8.75″ tall.
** Gauge: Ribbing – 5 sc x 6 Rows = 2″; Body – 6 dc x Rnds 1 – 6 = 2″.
* Chain stitch at the beginning of rnd does not count as a stitch.
** When working 2 Rnds below you will crochet over the ch and into the st 2 Rnds
below.

sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (5 sc)

sc, BLO sc in next 3, sc, ch 1, turn.
Rows 3 – 51 (57):
rep Row 2.
Do not finish off. Bring ends together with Row 1 in front. Slst ends together working across beginning ch and in back loop of Row 51 (57), ch 1, turn right side out, seam is now on the inside. (5 slst)
**Ribbing should measure: 2″ x 18″ (20″).
BODY: 6.50mm (K) hook

Rnds 19 – 20:
ch 1, sc in each st around, join to 1st sc.
Finish off leaving a 10″ tail.
Turn the beanie inside out. Weave the tail in and out of the stitches on Rnd 20, then cinch closed and secure. Turn right side out and add a pom if you would like!!
