Quickly Crochet a Peppermint Wine Bottle Cozy!
Hi everybody! I’m so excited that I finally get to share my fun peppermint crochet pattern. This easy Peppermint Wine Bottle Cozy is the perfect addition to your holiday festivities. With some basic stitches, a few rounds and a little bit of scrap yarn you can create this sweet cozy with the free version below.

Designing quick and decorative patterns for the Holiday season is so fun and one of my favorite things about my crochet journey. This pattern is super easy to whip up and it looks so cute on wine bottles as a decoration in your home or when gifting.

Inspiration
This cozy pattern idea has been sitting patiently in my little “design book” for quite some time and I’m so excited to finally share it with y’all. When Marie over at Underground Crafter invited me to participate in the 2025 Holiday Stashdown Crochet Along I knew that this project would work perfectly for this exciting event.

Design Details
For this quick and easy scrappy pattern you can use any worsted weight yarn. I used I Love This Yarn for the cozy shown throughout the post. It works up easily and you only need about 60 yards of yarn and your favorite 5.00mm hook to make this striped cozy.

The cozies are made in one piece and generally take under an hour to make. Beginning at the bottom and using only half double crochet and single crochet stitches you work in the round and then finish with the fun and simple candy cane border.

With all the different colors available in worsted weight yarn you can make your cozy in almost any color combo that you can think of. Look at these beauties from my amazing testers, Stacy, Michele, Peg, Carol & Patti! They used scrap worsted weight yarn from Loops and Threads Soft Classic, We Crochet Dishie to Red Heart Super Saver and they all worked up beautifully!

2025 Holiday Stashdown Crochet Along With CAL Central

Starting September 29 to December 18, 2025, designers come together to spread the joy of the season. You’ll find free crochet patterns that are perfect for holiday gifting or for decorating your home. From September 29 and all the way to December 15, every Monday and Thursday, we’ll share a free crochet pattern from a different designer.
These are smaller projects, requiring either one skein of yarn or bits from your stash. This allows you to really experiment with the different techniques and stitches these designers introduce without worrying about messing up and having to frog up too much precious yarn.

Peppermint Wine Bottle Cozy Crochet Pattern
What you will need for the Peppermint Wine Bottle Cozy crochet pattern
- Worsted weight (#4) yarn in two colors
- 25 yds – white; 34 yds – red
- 5.00 mm (H) hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Pattern Notes
* Advanced beginner pattern.
** Written in US crochet terms.
* Finished size when laid flay: 4″ wide x 6.5″ tall.
** Gauge: From center of cozy to edge of Rnd 4 = 1.25″.
* Chain stitch at the beginning of rnd does not count as a stitch.
** When working the hdc3l you will be working into the 3rd loop on the back of the st.
* When working the sc rnds make sure your tension isn’t too tight. It will be difficult to work the hdc3l rnds if so.
* I do not clip the yarn when changing colors. I drop the yarn and pick up the next color.

BLO = Back Loop Only
ch = chain
hdc = half double crochet
hdc3l = half double crochet 3rd loop
inc = increase
MC = Magic Circle
rep = repeat
Rnd(s) = Round(s)
sc = single crochet
slst = slip stitch
st = stitch
Pattern Instructions
With red yarn (or color of choice)
MC, ch 1.
Rnd 1:
8 sc in MC, slst to join to 1st sc, ch 1, close MC. (8 sc)
Rnd 2:
hdc inc in each st around, slst to join to 1st hdc, ch 1. (16 hdc)
Rnd 3:
*sc, sc inc; rep from * around, slst to join, ch 1. (24 sc)
Rnd 4:
*hdc in next 2, hdc inc; rep from * around, slst to join to 1st hdc, ch 1. (32 sc)
Rnd 5:
hdc BLO in each st around, slst to join to 1st hdc.
Join white yarn, this counts as the ch 1 to begin Rnd 6.
Rnd 6:
sc in each st around, slst to join to 1st sc, ch 1.
Rnd 7:
hdc3l in each st around, slst to join to 1st hdc. (See photos for working in the back loop.)
Join red yarn, this counts as the ch 1 to begin Rnd 8.
Rnd 8:
sc in each st around, slst to join to 1st sc, ch 1
Rnd 9:
hdc3l in each st around, slst to join to 1st hdc.
Rnds 10 – 21:
rep Rnds 6 – 9.
Do not finish off, continue with border.
Candy Cane Border
With red, ch 4, drop ch, join white in next st, ch 4, drop ch. Put hook back in loop on red ch, working over white ch, sc, ch 4 in next st (st next to the white ch), continue to repeat this sequence around.
The white will be joined to the bottom of your starting white chain. And the red will be joined to the bottom of your starting red chain.
Finish off, weave in ends.
