Gray Knotty Punkin'

Inspiration

Crochet pumpkin patterns are one of my most favorite things to crochet for the Fall season, especially quick and easy ones. Fortunately this is a simple pattern that just came to me while I was designing a block for one of my SASSy Baby Blankets the other day. I love it when easy designs like this fall right into my lap but that definitely doesn’t happen very often!!

Whether you are looking for a quick and easy pattern when market prepping or are in need for a super cute gift the Knotty Punkin’ pattern is a perfect make this Fall season.

Velvet Knotty Punkin'

Design Details

If you know how to single crochet and make the Popcorn stitch then you can make your very own Knotty Punkin’. This DIY pumpkin pattern is a great stash buster as it only uses a little over 100 yards of yarn and it only takes about 45 minutes or less to whip one of these cuties up.

Although the pattern calls for #4 worsted weight yarn I must admit that I’ve made them using all kinds of different yarns. In fact, my favorite ones are the velvet ones!!

To finish off the Knotty Punkin’ I like to use real sticks and raffia but wine corks or cinnamon sticks make great alternatives too!!

You don’t crochet?? No worries!! The finished pumpkins are also available on Etsy. If you need a color not shown in my Etsy shop just let me know. Custom orders are encouraged!

Finishing Pumpkin

DO NOT finish off. Fold in half so that the short sides meet and the wrong side is out (knots are on the inside). Sl st together.

Finish off and leave a very long tail (about 6 feet) for sewing up the ends and making the indentions.

Then, turn the pumpkin right side out (knots on the outside now). Using the long tail, thread your needle and make a running stitch through the outermost row of stitches on one end. Pull the yarn tightly to gather together then tie a knot to secure the closure. I did not cut the yarn here. Pull the tail through the inside then stuff the pumpkin with Poly-fil and close the other end the same way as the first.

Using the same tail, I made the indentions. Put the yarn on the outside of the pumpkin spacing evenly between the knots then insert the needle through the middle and pull tight. Continue to wrap the yarn around the outside between each row of knots. Tie a knot and weave in the end.

Decorate the top however you like.  I use hot glue and attach a real stem then I tie raffia onto the stem. Other fun options would be wine corks or cinnamon sticks!!
