Inspiration

This charming bumblebee crochet pattern is a design that has been swirling around in my head for quite a while. I knew I wanted to design a bee bag, but I just couldn’t get a design from paper to yarn that I liked.

While working on the Bumblebee Stemless Wine Glass Cozy pattern though this idea for the bag hit me and when I worked it up I was in love!

If market bags are one of your favorites to make, be sure to check out the free version of my Sunflower Market Bag here on the blog.

Design Details

These reusable, eco-friendly bags are designed using #4 cotton yarn. With the 3 row repeat they work up pretty quickly and look super cute in almost any color combination.

This advanced beginner bag is a one piece design worked in the round and they measure about 12.5″ wide x 15″ long. You work from the bottom up and finish off the handles with an adorable ruffle.

The wings are optional. They are very easy to make and attach to the back of the bag if you choose to.

The new Bumblebee Market Bag is a quick one day project, so get your 5.00 mm (H) hooks ready. I used about 162 yards of yellow yarn, 162 yards of black yarn and 10 yards of white yarn for the wings.

You can see the free version of the bag pattern below or if you prefer the premium, ad-free version of the Bumblebee Market Bag, then you can grab it for a small cost in either of my shops. Shop links are listed below.

In the paid version you will get a beautifully formatted, easy to read, ad-free PDF written pattern, written color change instructions and a photo tutorial for the wings.

Pattern Notes

* Advanced beginner pattern

** Written in US crochet terms

* Finished size: 12.5” across (when laid flat) x 15” long (excluding handles); wings are 4.25” wide.

** Gauge: Rnds 1 – 7 = 4”, 13 hdc = 4”

* The ch stitch at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch. Always place 1st stitch of each row in same stitch as beginning chain unless stated otherwise.

** Stitch count is only listed on each row when there is a change.

* The bag is worked in the round from the bottom up.

** I do not clip the yarn when making color changes. I drop the yarn and pick up the next color.

* Color changes:
For sc color changes, work pattern as instructed and on the last sc before the color change, stop before the last yarn over. Pick up the alternate color and complete the st.
