Free Crochet Coaster Pattern: Everyone’s Everyday Coaster
Some crochet projects are all about the little things — the simple pieces that make everyday life feel just a bit more handmade. The Everyone’s Everyday Coaster was designed to bring the textured stitch pattern from my Everyday Collection into a smaller, quick-to-make project that’s both practical and enjoyable to crochet.
Using the Interlocking Row Stitch, this coaster creates subtle texture while still being approachable for advanced beginners. It’s the kind of project that works up quickly, making it perfect for using up leftover yarn, creating thoughtful handmade gifts, or adding a cozy touch to your kitchen or coffee table.

Simple projects like this are some of my favorites to design because they fit easily into everyday life. The Everyone’s Everyday Coaster pairs beautifully with the Everyday Hot Pad, making it easy to create a coordinating handmade kitchen set that’s both functional and full of texture.

✨ Inspiration Behind the Design
The Everyone’s Everyday Coaster was created as a smaller companion piece within the Everyday Collection. I wanted a project that would highlight the beautiful texture of the Interlocking Row Stitch while still being quick, practical, and enjoyable to make.
One thing I love most about crochet is its ability to turn simple stitches into something both beautiful and useful. Some of the most meaningful handmade pieces are the ones we use every day, and this coaster was designed with that idea in mind — a small project that adds texture, warmth, and handmade charm to everyday life.

✨ Design Details
The Everyone’s Everyday Coaster was designed to bring the signature texture of the Everyday Collection into a smaller, quick-to-make project. It’s the kind of pattern that’s both practical and satisfying to crochet — perfect for adding a handmade touch to everyday moments.
The coaster is worked flat in rows using the Interlocking Row Stitch, which creates beautiful texture while remaining approachable for advanced beginners. (If you’re new to this stitch, you can find a full step-by-step photo tutorial here.) This stitch pattern forms a subtle woven look that adds depth without making the project overly complicated. It’s a wonderful stitch for practicing texture while still enjoying a relaxing, repeatable rhythm.
A simple structured border finishes the edges, giving the coaster a polished look while helping it hold its shape during everyday use. This small detail adds just enough structure so the finished piece feels neat and durable.

Skill Level
Advanced Beginner
The stitch pattern uses simple techniques and a repeating rhythm that becomes easy to memorize after the first few rows.
🧶 Yarn + Fabric Feel
For my samples, I used WeCrochet Dishie cotton yarn, which creates a sturdy, absorbent fabric that works beautifully for coasters and other kitchen projects.
Dishie is one of my favorite cotton yarns for practical crochet pieces because it’s durable, easy to care for, and holds stitch texture really well. It also comes in a wide range of colors, making it easy to match your kitchen décor or create coordinating sets.
If you’d like to use the same yarn I used for this design, you can find it here:
Cotton yarn is especially well-suited for coasters because it is absorbent, durable, and heat resistant, helping protect surfaces from warm mugs and cold drinks.
Yarn yardage
Approximately 50 yards

- #4 worsted weight cotton yarn (approx. 50 yards)
- Sample shown in WeCrochet Dishie Cotton (affiliate option)
- 4.00 mm (G) crochet hook
- Yarn needle (for weaving in ends)
- Scissors

Pattern Notes
- This pattern is part of the Everyday Collection and is the 10th design in the series.
- The coaster is worked flat in rows to create the rectangular base.
- After the base is complete, the piece is finished with a structured border worked in the round to give the coaster a clean, polished edge.
- The texture is created using the Interlocking Row Stitch, which places double crochet stitches into skipped stitches from two rows below to create a subtle woven effect.
- Turning chains do not count as stitches unless otherwise noted.
- Gauge is not critical for this project but may affect the finished size slightly.
- Cotton yarn is recommended for best absorbency and structure when used as a coaster.
- Finished coaster measures approximately 5″ x 5.25″.
