Free Crochet Heart Coaster Pattern: SASSy Sweetheart Coaster
Hello, crochet friends! 💕
Some crochet projects are stitched with more than just yarn — they’re made with love, quiet moments, and a whole lot of heart. And the SASSy Sweetheart Coaster is exactly that kind of project. Inspired by my very first pattern, the SASSy Sweetheart Earrings (released back in 2020), this little heart brings that same signature shape into your everyday home décor. It’s part of the growing SASSy Sweetheart Collection, and it works up quick enough to make a whole set before your coffee even gets cold. Whether you’re crocheting for Valentine’s Day, an anniversary, a sweet wedding gift, or a little something special for a bridal shower, these heart coasters are a thoughtful handmade touch that feels right at home on any table.

If you’re anything like me, you love a project that works up quick, looks adorable, and actually gets used — and this one was made for that. The SASSy Sweetheart Coaster is worked in joined rounds with simple shaping that forms two rounded lobes and a sweet little point at the bottom. It may look a little ruffly while you’re working (don’t you worry!), but with a gentle stretch or a quick block, it’ll lay nice and flat. Make one, make a set, make a whole stack — these are perfect for gifting, and they look really cute sitting on a table too.

Inspiration & Why You’ll Love This Pattern
The SASSy Sweetheart Coaster was inspired by my very first crochet design — the SASSy Sweetheart Earrings — I released back in 2020. That little heart shape has been a favorite of mine ever since, and turning it into something for the home just felt like a natural next step. It’s still got that same signature sweetheart look, but now it’s in a practical, everyday kind of way — the kind of cute you can set your coffee on and smile about.
You’ll love this pattern because:
- It works up quick, making it perfect for last-minute gifts
- The heart shape is sweet without being over-the-top
- It’s great for scrap yarn and easy to customize with color
- The shaping creates a coaster that looks polished but still handmade
- You can choose from multiple edging options to match your style
- It’s ideal for Valentine’s Day, weddings, anniversaries, and everyday décor

Whether you’re making a single coaster or a full matching set, this pattern is designed to be enjoyable from start to finish — the kind of project you’ll come back to again and again.
Design Details
The SASSy Sweetheart Coaster is worked in joined rounds, starting right at the top center of the heart and shaping as you go to create two rounded lobes and a defined point at the bottom. Each round brings you right back to that top center spot, which keeps everything neat and makes it easier to stay on track (even if you have to set it down and come back later, y’all).
Don’t be surprised if your coaster looks a little ruffled partway through — that’s normal. Once you complete the final round, a gentle stretch into shape (or a quick block) will help everything relax so the coaster lays nice and flat.

To finish it off, you’ll add Edging Option 1 (Single Crochet V-Stitch) — that’s the edging included in the free version here on the blog. If you’d like a different finish, the Crab Stitch and Soft Picot edging options are included in the premium ad-free PDF.
No matter how you finish it, you’ll end up with a heart coaster that’s practical, giftable, and just plain cute sitting on a table.
Yarn & Materials
This pattern is designed using worsted weight cotton yarn, which makes it durable, absorbent, and perfect for everyday use. A 4.5 mm (G/7) crochet hook is recommended, though you can size up to a 5.0 mm for a slightly softer finish. Since gauge isn’t critical, feel free to adjust your hook size to match the finished size you prefer.

Seeing this design come to life in different colors was such a treat, and I’m so thankful for my amazing testers who helped make sure this pattern was clear, accurate, and ready to share with y’all. Their feedback and creativity are always appreciated more than they know.
