Design Details

This little Christmas tree ornament is such a fun and quick holiday make, and it’s perfect whether you’re decorating your home, putting together gifts, or stocking up for markets. I used Worsted Weight (#4) yarn for that soft, cozy look, and it works up beautifully in WeCrochet Brava—I chose Almond, Fig, White, and Brindle for the stump. You only need 14 yards for the tree and 6 yards for the stump, so it’s a great stash-buster too!

This little tree ornament adds the sweetest handmade touch to any Christmas tree.

🎄🤎🎄🤎🎄

4.0 mm (G) hook gives the tree a nice, sturdy texture that helps it hold its shape. The finished size is about 2.5” wide at the base and 4.5” tall (not counting the hanger or the optional bead). I love adding a 10 mm wooden bead for a little farmhouse charm, but you can absolutely leave it off if you prefer a simpler look.

This is a beginner pattern written in US crochet terms, and one thing I really love about it is how quickly it works up—just 13 rows to complete the tree! Whether you’re making one or a whole set, these little ornaments come together in no time and add the sweetest handmade touch to your holiday season.

Yarn Info!

For this pattern, I used Brava Worsted by WeCrochet, one of my go-to yarns for holiday projects because it’s soft, affordable, and has beautiful stitch definition. It’s perfect for ornaments! For this design, I used the shades AlmondFigWhite, and Brindle for the stump.

You only need a small amount of each color, which makes this a great stash-busting project — or the perfect excuse to try Brava if you haven’t yet. It holds its shape beautifully and works up with a lovely texture using a 4.0 mm (G) hook.

Brava is available directly from WeCrochet, and I’ve linked the exact colors I used below (affiliate links):

Row 13:

Finish off leaving a 12″ tail for stitching folds in place.

Row 1:

Ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 2, ch 1, turn. (3 sc)

Rows 2 – 7:

sc in each st across, ch 1, turn. Bring Row 1 up behind Row 7. Slst across working in both sts of Row 7 and beginning ch.

Finish off leaving a 12″ tail for stitching in place.

  • Lay your square flat and turn it so it looks like a diamond. Make sure the corner with the long tail of yarn is at the bottom.
  • Fold the bottom corner up until the tip reaches the center of the square.
  • Using the long tail and a yarn needle, stitch that folded tip in place.
  • Then fold the left corner over so its bottom edge lines up with the bottom edge of the fold you just made.
  • Now fold the right corner over in the same way, lining up its bottom edge with the others. NOTE: Place yarn and needle so that it comes out at the top under the folds.
  • At this point, your folds should form a triangle shape, like a little tree.
  • Using the long tail and your yarn needle, sew a few small stitches down the center to hold the left and right folds in place. You may need to put a few sts across the bottom too. Try to sew through the back layers so the front stays neat.
  • When everything feels secure, finish off and continue on to the instructions for adding the tree stump.
  • You should now have your folded tree and the stump.
  • Place the stump at the bottom of the tree so the sewn edge of the stump lines up with the folded edge at the bottom. Make sure it is centered.
  • Using the long tail and a yarn needle, sew the stump to the bottom of the tree.
  • When the stump feels secure, finish off and weave in your ends.
  • Cut a 10-inch strand of yarn and fold it in half to make a loop.
  • Thread the folded end onto a yarn needle, then insert the needle into the tip at the top of the tree from back to front and pull the loop through.
  • If you are adding a bead, thread both yarn ends through the bead.
  • Pull the yarn ends (and bead, if used) through the loop and tighten gently so the loop cinches snugly against the top of the tree.
  • Slide the bead down until it rests at the top of the tree.
  • Tie the yarn ends together to form the hanger. Trim the ends if needed.

Note: You can also use ribbon, twine, or a thin cord instead of yarn if you prefer a different look.
