This is a beginner pattern and is perfect for everyday wear or for that special occasion that needs something dainty but beautiful.
Inspiration for the Simple Strappy Headband
This new crochet pattern, the Simple Strappy Headband is a design that’s been swirling around in my head for quite some time. I knew I wanted something practical & pretty but, I wanted it to be really minimal too. Being out in the country the wind blows often so I needed a headband to hold my hair back while not being hot either.
I couldn’t get it to work the way I wanted though. My vision was for it to be made in one piece with no assembly. Finally, a few weeks ago, it dawned on me how to make that happen! So, here we are with the one piece Simple Strappy Headband.
These simple little headbands are very versatile, so be sure you experiment by using all different colors of yarn. You can also play around and make them with 1, 2 or 3 straps to see how cute and useful they are.
Design Details
The Simple Strappy Headband is designed using #4 worsted weight yarn. I’ve used both cotton and acrylic yarns and love the headband when using either. This is the perfect stash busting project since you need under 20 yards of yarn to complete a headband.
All you need to know how to do is sc, ch & slst to make these fun, quick and easy cuties.
The headbands are designed in sizes Teen/Adult Small and Adult Medium, but they are easily customizable. Simply add or delete rows to make them longer or shorter. A little further down I’ve shared a headband size chart as a reference to help you when making them in different sizes.
*If making for an infant do not leave unattended while wearing.

What you will need for the Simple Strappy Headband crochet pattern in size Teen/Adult Small
- Worsted Weight #4 yarn
- 7 yards for 1 strap; 14 yards for 2 straps; 21 yards for 3 straps
- 3.50 mm (E) hook
- Yarn Needle
- Scissors
Pattern Notes
- Beginner pattern
- Written in US crochet terms
- Finished size: 1 strap = ½” wide x 18” long
Stitch Key
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
rep = repeat
slst = slip stitch
st = stitch
Instructions
1st Strap
Ch 2
Row 1:
sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, turn. (1 sc)
Rows 2 – 57:
sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 58:
Sc. Without twisting, slst to beginning ch, do not finish off.
2nd Strap
Ch 2
Row 1:
sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, turn. (1 sc)
Rows 2 – 57:
Sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 58:
Sc. Without twisting, slst to beginning ch. (For 3 straps, do not finish off & see below.)
Finish off, weave in ends.
