Peppermint Candy Placemat feature photo

I’m so excited! There’s another sweet design available for you, my new Peppermint Candy Placemat pattern is here. I thought it took awhile to finalize the Peppermint Candy Coaster, but, this one, it took even longer to create so I’m over the moon to finally be able to share it.

Like the peppermint coaster, this pattern is practical yet, adorable and so unique with the colorful peppermint stripes. It has a beautiful texture and since there are only 8 rounds to work you can complete one of these in no time.

Inspiration

The Peppermint Candy Placemat is the second piece to this “sweet” set and it coordinates perfectly with the Peppermint Candy Coaster which just released in October. I designed this pattern as part of the Giftstravaganza Blog Hop hosted by Marie from Underground Crafter.

Green & Red Peppermint Placemat

This delightful new Peppermint Candy Placemat is the perfect pattern to use if you’re looking for an extra special holiday gift giving idea!

Design Details

The Peppermint Candy Placemat is designed using #4 worsted weight cotton yarn which offers great durability and extra protection for your tabletops all while looking so pretty with your other holiday decor.

No worries if cotton isn’t an option for you. They’re just as charming when you use acrylic yarn too!!

The placemats are an intermediate level pattern and are worked in the round using double crochet and the link stitch. The link stitch is what gives the placemat such a unique texture. You will also need to know how to make color changes and the paid PDF offers help on how I do it for the link stitch on this pattern.

When you’re ready to get started just scroll down to check out the FREE pattern below. The Peppermint Candy Placemat will be a forever free pattern here on the SASS blog but, if you prefer a beautifully formatted, ad-free version you may purchase it in either of my shops listed in the “Where To Get The Pattern” section of this post.

The paid PDF includes the written instructions and a photo tutorial of over 30 photos to help you with the link stitch and color changes.

Peppermint Candy Placemat Crochet Pattern

What you will need for the Peppermint Candy Placemat crochet pattern

  1. Worsted Weight #4 cotton yarn
  2. 75 yards of white; 75 yards of red
  3. 6.5 mm (K)
  4. Yarn Needle
  5. Scissors

Pattern Notes

  • Intermediate pattern
  • Written in US crochet terms
  • Finished size: 13” across
  • Gauge: From center of placemat to edge of Rnd 2 = 2”
  • The placemat is worked in the round.
  • This pattern uses the Link Stitch.
  • Beginning chain does not count as a stitch. Always place 1st stitch of each round in same stitch as beginning chain unless stated otherwise.
  • Stitch count is only listed on each round when there is a change.
  • I do not cut the yarn between color changes on Rnds 2, 4, & 6, the Link Stitch rounds. I work the stitches then drop the color that I’m not working with. I pick up the next color and continue. Clip red yarn after completing last red Link Stitch of the round. You can clip between color changes or work over the yarn if you wish but, I don’t like for it to show through.
  • I clip the yarn after each color change on Rnds 3, 5, 7 & 8.
  • Always skip chain spaces on Rnds 2, 4, 5, 6 & 7 when working the next rounds.
  • I recommend that you block these placemats for a finished look.
  • Color change from white to red: complete Link Stitch until 2 loops remain on hook. Pull red through, drop white, complete the stitch.
  • Color change from red to white: complete Link Stitch, pull white through loop on hook to make ch st, drop red.
