What you will need for the Sunflower Hot Pat crochet pattern

  1. Worsted Weight #4 cotton yarn (I use cotton ~ I Love This Cotton) Brown &Yellow
  2. 52 yards – brown; 36 yards – yellow
  3. 5.50 mm (I) hook
  4. Yarn needle
  5. Scissors

Pattern Notes

* Advanced beginner pattern.

** Written in US crochet terms.

* Hot pad is worked in the round using 2 strands of yarn held together.

** Finished size = 8.75″ across the center including the petals.

* Gauge: From center of hot pad to edge of Rnd 3 = 2″.

** Chain stitch at the beginning of Rnd does not count as a stitch. Always place lst st of each round in
same st as beginning chain unless stated otherwise.

BLO = Back Loop Only

ch = chain

dc = double crochet

dc inc = double crochet increase

hdc = half double crochet

MC = Magic Circle

PC = Popcorn stitch

Picot = Picot stitch

rep = repeat

Rnd(s) = Round(s)

sc = single crochet

slst = slip stitch

sp = space


Body:

With brown yarn (or color of choice)

MC, ch 2.

Rnd 1:

work 12 dc in MC, slst to join to 1st dc, ch 2. (12 dc)

Rnd 2:

dc inc in each st around, slst to join to 1st dc, close MC, ch 2. (24 dc)

Rnd 3:

dc, ch 1, *dc in next dc, ch 1; rep from * around, slst to join to 1st dc, ch 1. (24 dc, 24 ch 1 sp)

Rnd 4:

hdc in each dc and each ch sp around, slst to join to 1st hdc, ch 1. (48 hdc)

Rnd 5: 

*PC, sc in next 3; rep from * around, slst to join to 1st PC. (12 PC, 36 sc)

PETALS

With yellow yarn (or color of choice)

Rnd 6:

ch 1, sc in each st around, slst to join to 1st sc, ch 1. (48 sc)

Rnd 7:

*(sc, dc, picot, dc, sc) in next st (petal made), BLO slst in next 2; rep from * around, ch 7, slst in beg sc. (16 petals)

Finish off and weave in ends.
