Get ready for the cold weather with this cozy bulky scarf. The new CrissCross Chunky Scarf pattern is our newest SASS design. It’s a quick make and is sure to be your favorite go to scarf. I love that it looks like a complicated pattern but it is really quite simple and I can whip one up in under an hour. The CrissCross Chunky Scarf is an advanced beginner pattern and is beautiful in either a solid color or with a contrasting stripe through the middle.
Inspiration
The new CrissCross Chunky Scarf pattern is a spinoff of a design that I’ve been working on for awhile. The original design, which will hopefully be available this year, is a lightweight scarf and uses fingering weight yarn, but I wanted a heavier scarf that whips up quickly so I adjusted the initial design and switched to #5 bulky yarn for this pattern.

Design Details
The CrissCross Chunky Scarf works up very quickly since it is designed with bulky #5 yarn and there are only 11 rows. I often make these using just one color of yarn and they are very pretty, but the ones that I make using 2 different colors of yarn are stunning. The extra pop of color down the center, especially shows off the crisscross design.
My testers whipped these scarves up in no time and reported that they just love the special twisted stitch down the center. The CrissCross Chunky Scarf is 90″ long, but I intentionally designed it to have plenty of length to bundle up in. I’m 5′ 2″ and it is a perfect length to wrap multiple times or to just loop it through once as shown in the photo here. It only requires 300 yards of yarn to make your own beautiful scarf so now you just need to decide if you want to make it with one color or two to get started!
The CrissCross Chunky Scarf PDF download includes the written instructions as well as a photo tutorial for the unique twisted stitch.
