Inspiration

Summertide means summertime, the warmest season of the year and my favorite season. I love getting outside and enjoying the long sunny days here in Texas. This design reminds me of that, of the sun and how happy it makes me.

Design Details

So are you wondering how hard these crochet coasters are to make? They are actually quite easy! There are only 2 rounds to complete. I have it listed as an advanced beginner pattern because the Link Stitch is the primary stitch. If you’ve never worked with that stitch before it can seem intimidating but once you get it down this coaster makes up in less than 30 minutes.

Like many of my patterns, this crochet coaster is designed to be quick and easy. Using #4 cotton yarn, a 6.5mm hook (K) and working only 2 rounds means you can whip these up in no time. In fact, the fringe is the most time consuming part of this enjoyable pattern! If you’re short on time though just use less fringe, they’re still adorable. The coasters are even more fun if you add wooden beads!!

Want to know another fun fact about this pattern…it makes adorable earrings! How exciting is that? 1 pattern, 2 different creations. Just change up the hook size and the yarn/thread and you can make a fun pair of earrings. I’ve included tips in the detailed PDF on how to make them.

  • Yarn Needle

Stitch Key

  • st = stitch
  • Rnd(s) = Round (s)
  • Ch = Chain stitch
  • SC = single crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • Rpt = Repeat
  • Link Stitch

Instructions

Ch 2

Rnd 1: SC in 2nd Ch from hook 10x, sl st to join to 1st SC, Ch 5 (10 SC)

Rnd 2: Begin 1st Link Stitch in 2nd Ch from hook, continue down the remaining 3 Ch and in the 1st SC from the previous row. Work a Link Stitch 2 more times in the 1st SC, Ch 1, *work 3 link stitches in next stitch, Ch 1*, Rpt *-* around, (30 Link Stitches)

Next, connect the last Link Stitch to the first Link Stitch:

Sl st down the edge of the last Link Stitch just worked, (5 sl st) Ch 1, turn coaster over so that the back is facing you now then sl st the edge of the last Link Stitch to the edge of the 1st Link Stitch

Finish off & weave in ends

Add fringe: Cut 4” long strands of yarn to attach one strand to each Link Stitch. (I do not put fringe in the Ch 1, only every Link Stitch but feel free to add as much fringe as you would like!) Fold 1 strand in half, hold the coaster facing you and insert hook from back to front and pull strand through. Insert both tails of the strand through the loop, pull tightly to secure. Unravel the fringe, by “combing” a needle through the strands then trim to desired length.
