Crochet fun fall placemats using one or both of these New Pumpkin Placemat Patterns!! Yes, we’re showing off two new farmhouse placemat patterns, including a nice sized rectangular one and a stylish round one. How cool is that?!?
I teamed up with Christine over at Spotted Horse Design Co. to bring y’all these charming, rustic style fall farmhouse crochet placemat patterns and we couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve created together.
Inspiration
Have you seen the Farmhouse Pumpkin Coaster pattern? It was included in my Pumpkin Roundup recently and Christine is the designer of that adorable pattern.
While testing this cutie for her we had fun coming up with new ideas incorporating these fabulous pumpkins into new patterns. Although we have several different ideas in the works we decided to bring y’all these 2 new pumpkin placemat patterns first.
Design Details
Just like the Farmhouse Pumpkin coaster, both of the new Farmhouse Pumpkin Placemat patterns use a special bobble stitch and require color changes. If you’ve made the coasters already then these advanced beginner/intermediate placemats will be easy for you. Both of these placemats work up pretty quickly and we recommend using worsted #4 cotton yarn for it’s durability.
These charming farmhouse pumpkin placemats are perfect when decorating this fall season. While they offer a fun rustic style to your home they also help to protect your delicate surfaces.

Farmhouse Pumpkin Rectangular Placemat Crochet Pattern
What you will need for the Farmhouse Pumpkin Rectangular Placemat crochet pattern
- Worsted Weight #4 cotton yarn (This pattern is designed with I Love This Cotton)
- Per placemat: 120 yards MC; 70 yards for pumpkins; 10 yards for stems
- 4.25 mm (G) hook
- Yarn Needle
- Scissors
Pattern Notes
- Advanced beginner/Intermediate pattern
- Written in US crochet terms
- Finished size: 13.5” tall x 18″ wide
- GAUGE: 4″ x 4″ square = 14 DC sts and 7.5 rows
- Ch at beginning of each row does not count as a stitch
Instructions for the pumpkins using the tr bbl/bbls stitch
- yo twice, insert hook into st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, draw through first two loops on hook, yo draw through next two loops on hook (two loops remaining on hook)
- Repeat this process four more times. You should now have six loops on your hook, and five partial treble crochets (the 6th loop is connected to the previous stitch). You will not ‘close’ the bobble by chaining 1 (some patterns call for this). Simply move on to the next stitch.~ Instructions for stems: Using CC2, yo, insert hook into st and draw up a loop, yo, insert hook into same st and draw up another loop. You should now have 5 loops on your hook. Drop CC2 and pick up MC and draw through all 5 loops on hook.
Instructions for the stems
Using CC2, yo, insert hook into st and draw up a loop, yo, insert hook into same st and draw up another loop. You should now have 5 loops on your hook. Drop CC2 and pick up MC and draw through all 5 loops on hook.
Changing color to make the pumpkins
1. Work your dc as normal until you get to 2 loops left on hook
2. Drop your yarn and pick the next color. Make sure to lay it (the color you are dropping) across the next stitch. Don’t let it fall to the front of your work.
3. Complete the stitch by drawing the new color through the loops on your hook. You are now ready to make the next stitch with the new color.
NOTE: You may choose to carry CC1 or CC2 over the next stitches by crocheting over it and picking it up on the next pumpkin/stem or you may tie off the pumpkins and stems each time one is completed.
Tip: to ensure your bobbles pop out on the right side (as opposed to the wrong side), work the next st after the tr bbl *behind* the tr bbl and then tighten down slightly to secure the tr bbl on the right side.
