FREE Crochet Pattern
Crochet a “Wine Time” Stemless Glass Sweater! This is an intermediate level pattern, but like most of my patterns, it works up fairly quickly since there are only 10 rounds to complete. I’m also excited to be offering the basic version of this trendy pattern for FREE here on the blog!
Design Details
This stemless wine glass sweater was designed to have a snug fit and a farmhouse chic style using lightweight cotton yarn and a 3.75mm (F) hook. While most of the stitches used in this pattern are basic you will need to know how to do the Link Stitch and work in the round. If you have all of these down, then you’re good to go but, if not, no worries. I do offer a written and photo tutorial in the paid detailed version which is available in both my Ravelry and Etsy shops.
Inspiration
I was so inspired to make the “Wine Time” Stemless Glass Sweater after visiting the wine festival last year. Everyone loved dressing up their wine glasses and the wine glass lanyards were a BIG hit. After that, I knew I needed to get this design finished so that I could share it. Speaking of wine glass lanyards, I have that design in the works and it will be here soon!
To Gift or Not?
Certainly these are perfect for gift giving with the Holiday Season right around the corner but sometimes you have to be a little selfish and make something for yourself. With the “Wine Time” Stemless Glass Sweater you can easily do both!!
Practical When Entertaining
Not only are these a fun make but they are practical. I don’t know about you but I love making pieces that are useful (and pretty). The sweaters are definitely handy as I’m sure they help with keeping your wine somewhat chilled but most importantly they provide a stylish non slip grip. They are perfect to use when entertaining too. Give each guest their own sweater then there’s no drink mix ups.

FREE “Wine Time” Stemless Glass Sweater Crochet Pattern ~ Basic Version
What you will need to make a Stemless Wine Glass Sweater
- Medium #3 Cotton yarn (I used Yarn Bee Sugarwheel Cotton)
- Approximately 25 yards
- 3.75 mm (F)
- Yarn Needle
- Elastic hair tie (thin, very stretchy without the metalpiece)

- Finished size: 4.25” across x 4” tall
- GAUGE: 9 Link Stitches = 2” across x 1” long

Instructions
Crochet “Wine Time” Stemless Glass Sweater
Ch 3
Rnd 1:
DC in 3rd Ch from hook, make 9 more DC in same space, sl st to join to 1st DC, Ch 2 (10 DC)
Rnd 2:
DC in same st as Ch 2, Ch 2, *DC in next st, Ch 2*, Rpt *-* around, sl st to join to 1st DC, Ch 1 (10 DC)
Rnd 3:
HDC in same st as Ch 1, Ch 3, *HDC in next DC, Ch 3*, Rpt *-* around, sl st to join to 1st HDC, Ch 1 (10 HDC)
Rnd 4:
HDC in same stitch as Ch 1, Ch 4, *HDC in next HDC, Ch 4*, Rpt *-* around, sl st to join to 1st HDC, Ch 1 (10 HDC)
Rnd 5:
SC in same stitch as Ch1, 3 SC in next Ch sp, *SC in next HDC, 3 SC in next Ch sp, Rpt*-* around, sl st to join to 1st SC, Ch 1 (40 SC)
Rnd 6:
HDC in same stitch as Ch 1, Ch 3, *sk 3 SC then HDC in next SC, Ch 3*, Rpt *-* around, sl st to join to 1st HDC, Ch 1 (10 HDC)
The Sweater starts to take shape and curl up as you continue to complete each round.
Rnd 7:
HDC in same stitch as Ch 1, Ch4, *HDC in next HDC, Ch 4*, Rpt *-* around, sl st to join to 1st HDC, Ch 1 (10 HDC)
Rnd 8:
SC in same stitch as Ch 1, 3 SC in next Ch sp, *SC in next HDC, 3 SC in next Ch sp, Rpt *-* around, sl st to join to 1st SC, (40 sc)
Link Stitch Round
Rnd 9:
To begin first Link Stitch, Ch 5. Insert hook in second Ch from hook and pull up a loop, insert hook in third Ch from hook and pull up a loop, insert hook in fourth Ch from hook and pull up a loop, insert hook into first SC from previous row and pull up a loop. (6 loops on hook)
YO pull through first 2 loops (5 loops on hook), YO pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook), YO pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook), YO pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook), YO pull through last 2 loops on hook. First Link Stitch complete.
To start the second Link Stitch, insert hook under first horizontal bar and pull up a loop, insert hook under second horizontal bar and pull up a loop, insert hook under third horizontal bar and pull up a loop, insert hook under fourth horizontal bar and pull up a loop, finally insert hook into next SC of previous row and pull up a loop. (6 loops on hook)
YO pull through first 2 loops (5 loops on hook), YO pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook), YO pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook), YO pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook), YO pull through last 2 loops on hook. Link Stitch complete.
Work a Link Stitch in each SC from the previous row, Ch 1 (40 Link Stitches)
If you aren’t familiar with the Link Stitch I do offer written instructions and a photo tutorial in the paid PDF version.
Next, connect the last Link Stitch to the first Link Stitch:
Sl st down the edge of the last Link Stitch just worked, (5 sl st) Ch 1, turn sweater wrong side out then sl st the edge of the last Link Stitch to the edge of the 1st Link Stitch, Ch 1 and turn right side out. (The ridges from the Link Stitch are now on the outside.)
Rnd 10:
Hold a hair tie behind the Link Stitches and begin to SC, Ch 2 in each Link stitch around being sure to SC over the hair tie with each stitch. Join to 1st SC. (40 SC)
Finish off & weave in ends.
