Pumpkin hot pad crochet pattern 3

Tired of using the same old boring hot pads in your kitchen? Want to add a touch of cuteness to your cooking routine? Well, look no further because the Pumpkin Hot Pad is here to steal the show!

This intermediate level crochet pattern is not only charming, but also highly customizable, making it the perfect addition to your kitchen. With about 130 yards of #4 WW cotton yarn and a 4.00mm (G) hook, you can create a practical and adorable hot pad that is sure to stand out from the rest.

Making these pumpkin hot pads is labeled an intermediate level project, but with practice, even an advanced beginner can tackle it. It’s considered this level due to the combination of the Popcorn stitch and the multiple color changes which definitely adds a unique touch to these hot pads, making them a fun and festive addition to your kitchen.

You will make two panels – the front panel with the pumpkin on it and then a back panel using only simple single crochet stitches. The front and back panels are then connected with an easy single crochet border. They measure 8.5″ tall x 8″ wide making them the perfect size for most pans.

I do recommend that you use cotton yarn only as acrylic will likely melt when placing a hot pan on it. Remember, these hot pads are not meant to replace oven mitts and are not intended to pick up or remove hot items from an oven. They are solely designed to provide an additional layer of protection for your countertops.

Pumpkin Hot Pad Crochet Pattern

What you will need for the Pumpkin Hot Pad crochet pattern

  1. Worsted weight (#4), cotton yarn
  2. 130 yds: Main Color – 110 yds, Orange – 15 yds, Green – 5 yds
  3. 4.00 mm (G) hook
  4. Yarn Needle
  5. Scissors

Pattern Notes

* Intermediate pattern.

** Written in US crochet terms.

* Finished size = 8.5″ tall x 8″ wide.

** Gauge: 7.5 sc x 8.25 rows = 2″.

* Chain stitch at the beginning of row does not count as a stitch. Always place 1st stitch of each row in same stitch as beginning chain unless stated otherwise.

** When changing colors, I do not fasten off the Main Color. I drop the Main Color and join the next color. I clip the pumpkin or stem colors after completing that row.

* I used a combination of tapestry & intarsia crochet techniques. Be sure to leave some slack in the carried yarn and always carry the yarn on the WS.

** To change colors do not complete sc. Leave 2 loops on hook, yarn over with new color and pull through 2 loops on hook.

* Each hot pad is made up of 2 panels, a front and back that is connected with a sc border.

** Stitch count is only listed on each row when there is a change.

* Starting at the bottom right corner, odd numbered rows are read arrow ← and are RS rows. Even numbered rows are read → and are WS rows.

** Cotton yarn is recommended as acrylic yarn will likely melt when placing a hot pan on it.

**NOTE** The Hot Pad is to help protect your countertops when placing a hot pan on it. It is not intended to pick up or remove hot items from an oven or stove. This does not replace an oven mitt.

Popcorn Stitch Tutorial

1. Place 4 sc into the same st on previous Row.

2. Remove hook from the 4th stitch and insert into 1st of the 4 just made working from back to front.

3. Pick up the loop from the 4th sc and pull through. Be sure the popcorn is facing away from you.
