Inspiration
If you’ve been hanging out with me for awhile, you may recognize this cute little hot pad. It is a spin off of the SASSy Square Coaster pattern that I released last year. The coaster pattern was so popular I decided to make a few adjustments and offer it in a larger hot pad size.
The SASSy Square Hot Pads coordinate beautifully with many home decor styles, especially the farmhouse look. They are designed to protect your counter or tabletops when you need to set hot pans or maybe a hot coffee pot on them. With the gorgeous stitching though there are open spaces and it is not meant to use when picking up hot items from the stove or removing items from a hot oven.
Design Details
The SASSy Square Hot Pad is a pretty, lightweight pattern full of texture. The hot pads are made by crocheting with 2 strands of cotton yarn at once helping to make them extra thick and durable enough to use everyday.
You’ll love learning how to crochet these SASSy Square Hot Pads. All you need is #4 cotton yarn and an 8.00 mm (L) hook to whip up a few of these. Using the Link Stitch and the Reverse Single Crochet/Crab Stitch this pattern works up very quickly. Included is a photo tutorial for the Link Stitch with the downloadable PDF. Also in the PDF is an option to add a hanging loop if you want to decorate your kitchen and hang them.

- Medium #4 yarn (I use cotton ~ Lily Sugar’n Cream)
- Approximately 55-70 yards
- 8.00mm (L)
- Yarn Needle

*With 2 strands of yarn
Ch 16
Row 1:
sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 2, turn (15 sc)
Row 2:
skip first sc, hdc in next sc then hdc in 1st sc (1st crossed hdc st made), *skip next sc, hdc in the next sc then hdc in skipped sc* repeat *-* 6 times, hdc in last st, ch 2, turn (15 hdc)
Row 3:
skip first hdc, hdc in next hdc then hdc in first hdc, *skip next hdc, hdc in next hdc then hdc in skipped hdc*, rpt *-* 6 times, hdc in last st, ch 1, turn (15 hdc)
Row 4:
sc in each st across, ch 5, turn (15 sc)
Begin Link Stitch Row
Row 5:
begin first link stitch in 2nd ch from hook, continue down the remaining 3 ch and in the 1st sc from the previous row. Work the link stitch in each stitch across the entire row, ch 1, turn (15 link stitches)
Row 6:
sc in each st across, ch 2, turn (15 sc)
Row 7:
skip first sc, hdc in next sc then hdc in 1st sc, *skip next sc, hdc in the next sc then hdc in skipped sc* repeat *-* 6 times, hdc in last st, ch 2, turn (15 hdc)
Row 8:
skip first hdc, hdc in next hdc then hdc in first hdc, *skip next hdc, hdc in next hdc then hdc in skipped hdc*, rpt *-* 6 times, hdc in last st, ch 1, turn (15 hdc)
Row 9:
sc in each st across, ch 1, (15 sc)
Border
Evenly RSC around all 4 sides of the hot pad. Make sure that the right side is facing you. (There are about 14-15 RSC on each side), sl st to join to 1st RSC
Finish off & weave in ends
