Inspiration
The inspiration for this charming sunflower wine glass pattern comes from the Sunflower Afghan designed by Crafty Kitty Crochet. I make afghans using her pattern often. In fact, I can’t keep them in stock in my shop. One evening while crocheting one of these beautiful blankets and sipping a smooth glass of wine I thought why not combine the two popular favorites and the Sunflower Wine Cozy series began.
Design Details
Sunflowers are so cheerful and bright and I feel like this crochet design captures both of those wonderful qualities that sunflowers represent. The Sunflower Wine Glass Cozy pattern is listed as an advanced beginner pattern because I use a few different stitches including the Popcorn stitch. If you’ve never worked with that stitch before you are going to love it and the fabulous texture that it offers.
Like my WINE TIME wine glass cozy pattern, this crochet cozy is designed to be quick and easy. Using #4 cotton yarn and a 3.75mm (F) hook you can whip several of these up in no time. Also included with the paid PDF is a second version of the pattern. It’s still just as quick to make as this version listed below, but it offers a little more flexibility in fit. The second version is slightly altered to include a stretchy hair tie which ensures your cozy will fit wine glasses that have a larger base.

What you will need
- #4 yarn (I use cotton, I Love This Cotton)
- Approximately 30 yards of brown & 10 yards of yellow
- 3.75 mm (F)
- Yarn Needle

- Finished size: About 4.5” across x 4.25” tall; Fits glasses that measure about 11” around the widest part of the glass

*With brown yarn (or color of your choice)
Ch 20, join to 1st ch making sure not to twist the ch, ch 2

Rnd 2: sc in each dc and ch space around, sl st to join to 1st sc, ch 2 (40 sc)

Rnd 4: sc, 2 sc in ch space, *sc in next dc, 2 sc in next ch space*, rpt *-* around, sl st to join to 1st sc, ch 1 (30 sc)
Begin 1st Popcorn Round
Rnd 5: PC, sc in next 2 sc, *PC, sc in next 2 sc*, rpt *-* around, sl st to join to 1st PC, ch 1 (10 PS, 20 sc)
Rnd 6: sc in each stitch around, sl st to join to 1st sc, ch 1 (30 sc)
Begin the hdc Round making an “X” pattern around
Rnd 7: hdc in 2nd st, hdc in 1st st (making an “X”), *sk a st, hdc in next st, hdc in sk st*, rpt *-* around, sl st to join to 1st hdc, ch 1 (30 hdc)
Rnd 8: *sc2tog, sc in the next 8 st*, rpt *-* around, sl st to join to 1st sc, ch 1 (27 sc)
Begin 2nd Popcorn Round
Rnd 9: PC, sc in next 2 st, *PC in next st, sc in next 2 st*, rpt *-* around, sl st to join to 1st PC, ch 1 (9 PS, 18 sc)
Change to yellow yarn
Rnd 10: sc in each st around, sl st to join to 1st sc, ch 2, turn (27 sc)
Rnd 11: In 2nd st (dc, dc, tr, picot, tr, dc), sl st in next st, *(dc, dc, tr, picot, tr, dc in next st), sl st in next st*, rpt *-* around, sc2tog the last 2 st, sl st to join to 1st sc on Rnd 10 (13 petals)
Finish off & weave in ends
