The February ’21 SASSy Spotlight…

February! Where have you gone?? I cannot believe we’re getting ready to close out this month already. But, we’re going to finish it off with a bang by turning the Feb ’21 SASSy Spotlight on my crochet pal Krystal over at Eco-Minded Stitches!!

We’re so excited to get to spend this time with Krystal and to learn more about her as well as what Eco-Minded Stitches is all about. She is a busy wife, mom of 2 gorgeous girls, friend and crochet pattern designer/maker so we’re glad she had time to do our Feb ’21 SASSy Spotlight.

Krystal and I connected through the Crochetpreneur Business Academy last year. We had a lot in common as far as where we were with our crochet businesses so it was easy to develop a fun friendship. We enjoy our extended video chats and chit chat about everything from our kids to writing up our next crochet pattern.

Krystal’s Business Name

Eco-Minded Stitches is an awesome business name so I had to check in with Krystal and get the details on how it came about. She decided some time ago to become more aware and support a sustainable living lifestyle so when she started her crochet biz this was a perfect name to show off her love for our environment. “My favorite thing to design and make are items for the home to support sustainability” says Krystal.

When Eco-Minded Stitches Began…

Eco-Minded Stitches is basically brand new!! Krystal officially started her crochet business in 2020 and since then she has continued to consistently release new Eco friendly patterns for us to enjoy. This may be a new business for us, but Krystal has been crocheting since 2014. She learned from her dad’s wife, Theresa, who taught her the basic stitches and she’s grown tremendously from there.

Favorite Design That You’ve Created?

Eco-Trio Reusable Cloth

I love all of Krystal’s patterns, they are practical & trendy, but they are also generally quick & easy. I’m that person that loves to make things that I can use and reuse over and over and Eco-Minded Stitches’ patterns are perfect if you too like crocheting practical items. Krystal has released 8 crochet patterns so far, but so many more are in the works. Of these 8, Krystal’s favorite design is her Eco-Trio Reusable Cloth. “Not only is this my very first design, it is also inspired by a paper item that is so easily used in the home, paper towels!”

Favorite Designer(s) To Follow?

This is one of my favorite questions to ask because I always find new, awesome crochet businesses to check out. After asking Krystal this question she says, “I do not just have one favorite designer, I have many!” Hehe, me too Krystal.

Her list of some of her favs contains so many fabulous designers like Trista of Crochets by Trista, Amber of Amber Bliss This, Michelle of Two Brothers Blankets & Sarah of SEK Handmade. She also loves keeping up with Jan of The Crafty Therapist, Courtney of Creations by Courtney, Susanna of Fosbas Designs and another one of my favorites too, Suzanne of Crafting Each Day. Krystal is also a supporter of SASS and often helps me out when I need a tester for a new pattern or just an opinion for which I am so grateful. I have been following along with most of the designers on her list too, and would have to agree that these are great crochet artists so be sure you go check them out.

Are y’all excited for the Feb ’21 SASSy Spotlight featured pattern?! I’m super excited about this one as I’ve made one already and can’t wait to make more.

Today, Krystal is sharing her Eco Dish Drying Mat with us. It’s the perfect addition to your sustainable kitchen!! These fabulous mats quickly absorb the water from your dishes since they are extra thick and very large in size, measuring about 17″ x 12″. They are super customizable too!! You can change the size up to fit your needs like I did and you can make them in almost any color.

As Krystal’s special gift to us she is offering her wonderful Eco Dish Drying Mat pattern for 50% off in her Ravelry shop until Sunday at midnight EST (2/28/21), no coupon needed. Also, if you are already a part of our SASS family and have been receiving our newsletters then you know to open today’s email for your extra little gift from Krystal!!!

What’s Coming Next for Eco-Minded Stitches?

When asked what’s next for Eco-Minded Stitches Krystal said, “This year I have quite a few things planned out that I am excited to see blossom for me both personally and professionally as well. Designs, collaborations and features to name a few.” Ohhh, this sounds exciting!! Considering everything that Krystal accomplished in 2020, her first year in business, I can’t wait to see what’s coming this year from Eco-Minded Stitches.

What’s Up When You’re Not Crocheting?

Krystal blog post

When Krystal isn’t crocheting she enjoys reading and practicing her hand lettering. In the Spring and Summertime in Michigan she does enjoy being outdoors and gardening. In fact, she is planning to plant a salsa garden this year! I definitely want to see this as salsa is a favorite must have here in Texas.
