The January ’21 SASSy Spotlight…
Happy New Year!! Here’s to hoping we’ve put 2020 and all of its shenanigans behind us and 2021 will be a fresh start to a happy, peaceful year. Today we’re turning the Jan ’21 SASSy Spotlight on Peggy of Twisted Crochet. We couldn’t be any happier than to start the year out with such an amazing lady.
Peggy and I connected on Instagram and I found out very quickly that she is the epitome of kindness. She fully represents the Community Over Competition phrase. She always finds the time to show so much support to all of her small biz friends.
If you know anything about Peggy you know that she is a go getter. She always has a few irons in the fire. When asked about who she is as a person, what her favorite titles are, she had a wonderful list that describes her perfectly starting with wife, mom, grandma & friend. She’s most definitely a creative too, and being a crochet designer & maker are at the top of her creative list. In fact, Peggy is the self proclaimed queen of beanies!! She’s also a yogini and offers yoga sessions online that you have to check out. Finally, she’s a Teacher with a capital T. So many fabulous titles and she’s great at all of them!!
Peggy’s Business Name
I’m always curious how business owners come up with their names and Peggy shared with me that she started her business without a name! What? Her naming process was pretty interesting though. She shared this, “Over time I realized I needed something for marketing and selling my handmade items. I remember standing at my white board writing down the words that have meaning to me and I realized that my two passions – crochet and yoga kept circling each other. I thought, “what do these two things have in common?” The word “twisted” kept coming up. Yarn is twisted and we twist in yoga. And we twist to release stress and tension. And voila…Twisted Crochet was born.” Now how cool is that!!
When Twisted Crochet Began…
Peggy started her crochet business about 5 years ago after a friend asked if she could make her a messy bun beanie and in her words, “This was the year those beanies took off like wildfire”! She told her friend, “Yes,” and made one. After posting the picture on Facebook the orders just started pouring in. “I was hooking up a storm that Christmas season right up until Christmas Eve!” says Peggy.
Favorite Design That You’ve Created?
Peggy has been crocheting “since the dawn of time”, her grandma taught her when she was 7. She has now released 10 fabulous patterns, some of which I had the honor of testing. Her favorite release so far is the Twisted Roots Cardi and she is so very proud of it. This cardigan is Peggy’s first wearable that she designed with the help of her amazing testers. Her beta tester even remarked that it was her new favorite cardigan. That’s such a compliment when your testers love your designs!!
Favorite Things to Design?
Peggy absolutely loves designing sweaters and cardigans and close behind is winter beanies. Stay tuned if you love her creations!! She has 3 beanies patiently waiting for her to write them up as well as this beautiful Twisted Roots Kid’s Cardi that is COMING SOON.
Favorite Designer(s) To Follow?
As crochet designers, we all love to follow other makers and designers for inspiration and just because we love their creativity. Peggy too has a few magnificent crochet designers that she is inspired by like DeniMade, Lady J Crochet, The Turtle Trunk & Evelyn and Peter. Likewise, she keeps up with my SASS designs and almost always helps me out when I need an awesome tester. Whitney over at Pretty Pinetree Crochet & Liz at Sugar Mountain Crafts top her list as well. These are some of my favs too, so be sure you go check them out!!
Jan ’21 SASSy Spotlight Pattern
Now that you’re all caught up on all things Twisted Crochet we have a BIG surprise. As part of the Jan ’21 SASSy Spotlight we are featuring her Twisted Roots Cardi pattern!! Since this is her favorite of her 10 patterns she wanted to share it with all of us. YAY!! Peggy released this pattern back in October and it was a big hit so I’m sure y’all will just love it.
This pattern was written in 4 adult sizes: Small, Medium, Large and X-Large. You will need worsted weight #4 yarn and a 5.0mm (H) hook to make your own cardigan. The pattern is worked from the bottom up and is almost seamless. For those like me, I love the seamless part! Seaming is one of the reasons I shy away from most garment patterns.
Peggy’s inspiration for this gorgeous cardigan comes from her desire to design comfortable wearables which is the direction Twisted Crochet is heading in. Peggy said the Twisted Roots Cardi was “like giving birth to a baby” and she hasn’t looked back as she continues to create an endless array of comfortable designs.
So that we all can enjoy the comfort and beauty of the Twisted Roots Cardi Peggy is offering her pattern to us for 50% off, no coupon needed. Just head over to Twisted Crochet to get your pattern at this awesome discounted price. Also, if you are already a part of our SASS family and have been receiving our newsletters then you know to open today’s email for your extra little gift from Peggy!!!
What’s Coming Next for Twisted Crochet?
Y’all be sure to follow Twisted Crochet, there’s another cardigan that Peggy is designing. She made the prototype in November and the response from pattern testers was overwhelming. She should have this out to testers in early January and has a planned release date of before January 31. Also in the works is the Twisted Sierra Beanie. It just needs to be written up and tested. Peggy is hoping for a mid January release date.
What’s Up When You’re Not Crocheting?
When Peggy isn’t crocheting, she’s practicing and teaching yoga! She teaches Vinyasa, yin, and Yoga Nidra as well as meditation. “Yoga is such a great way to fire up your creativity and keep the inspiration flowing.” You can learn more and find the online teaching schedule at peggynolanyoga.com.
