The December ’20 SASSy Spotlight
Today we’re turning the Dec ’20 SASSy Spotlight on Lauren of Curly Ginger Creations. We’re so happy to have Lauren spend some time with us. Not only is she sharing more about who she is, she’s also sharing her new pattern the “Stepping Stones Cup Scarf” with us today.
Lauren is a super busy wife and mom of 3 little ones so we’re very grateful that she had some time to do our Dec ’20 SASSy Spotlight segment. She has an adorable 4 year old son and the cutest almost 3 year old twin girls. Not only is Lauren the face behind Curly Ginger Creations she also happens to be a fellow Texan. This is probably why when we met on Instagram we connected so quickly.
Lauren’s Business Name
I love Lauren’s business name so much and it fits her perfectly. I always want to know how my friends came up with their business names and Lauren put a lot of thought into hers for sure. It came from a mix of ideas and since she hadn’t completely decided on what medium she wanted to incorporate into her business she wanted something that didn’t restrict her as she grew. She also wanted it to be something about her, something that would never change. After going through a few different names she finally settled on Curly Ginger Creations. It’s the perfect choice as Curly Ginger represents her curly red hair and Creations allows her to focus on more than one medium.
Curly Ginger Creations Started In…
Curly Ginger Creations is a very new business that was just started in 2019. It was initially a Cricut / customization business, but early this year Lauren began to incorporate crochet as she started testing for designers. Although her business is quite new, Lauren started crocheting 4 years ago. After her son was born in 2016 she learned to crochet to pass the time, but it has definitely become more than she ever thought it would. After having twin girls though, crochet don’t happen quite as often as before.
Favorite Design That You’ve Created?
Lauren is still new to designing and writing her own patterns, but she’s created a few this year that you’re sure to love. Her favorite one is her first one, the “Stepping Stones Cozy” pattern. It’s an adorable cup cozy design and is available in her Etsy Shop.
Favorite Things To Design?
Lauren’s favorite things to design in general are small accessories as they are a good gateway for her to start designing more complex patterns. If you’ll notice she calls this pattern the “Stepping Stones Cozy”. That is what the pattern is to her, it’s a stepping stone that represents her as she begins her journey in the crochet world as a new writer / designer.
Favorite Designer(s) To Follow?
Like all of us in the crochet world, Lauren has so many different designers that she follows. These designers have inspired her and encouraged her to design and write her own patterns. Her cozies in particular were inspired by Tracy over at tl.crochet, a designer that Lauren has tested for many times. She also keeps up with me here at SASS and always helps me out when I need testers. Some of Lauren’s other favorite designers includes Miranda over at Crazy4CrochetMomma, Malena at Straight Hooked & Whitney at Pretty Pine Tree just to name a few. I too follow these designers and encourage you to check all of them out!!
Today’s SASSy Spotlight Pattern
Yay!! Now for the super exciting part of the SASSy Spotlight. Let’s dig into Lauren’s newest pattern that she’ll be sharing with us today. I’m super excited about this one as we’re the first to see it!!
Introducing the “Stepping Stones Cup Scarf”. It’s the same basic design as the “Stepping Stones Cozy” but this pattern is a wrap around. It also features a festive button.
When testing her new “Stepping Stones Cup Scarf” the testers added their own button styles and they turned out beautifully. Check them out!!

Lauren’s inspiration for this adorable design was the overall popularity of the mug cozies. Since everyone is excited about them she figured why not design one of her own. She decided to incorporate a button on this pattern for a little extra customization fun.
