Crocheted SASSy Sweetheart Earrings
Have you ever had a sudden idea and just grabbed your hook and made it? Yeah, me neither HA…at least not until now. While sitting in my craft room the other night, I started thinking about some new Valentine ideas and these Crocheted SASSy Sweetheart earrings just popped into my head. So did a lot of other designs, but I’ll share those later. 💜
Now, I love traditional crocheting using yarn, but I also LOVE working with different fibers and materials. So me being me, I pulled out the leather cord for this project (I always keep this available 😉) and started working on forming a heart shape. Since I’ve crocheted for 40 years (Eeeek), I know the basics of making a heart so it didn’t take too long. The first earring turned out pretty good, but the shape wasn’t just right. Adjustments were made and I came up with this heart shape. The ear wires were added and TA DA! Introducing the Crocheted SASSy Sweetheart Earrings!

Are you ready?
Now, let’s make your own handmade heart shaped earrings! You’re gonna love making these. They are so fun and quick!
Here’s what you’ll need
- 1mm cord (I use leather or hemp)
- 2.75mm crochet hook (you can use any hook to increase size of earring)
- Adhesive (OPTIONAL)
- Scissors
- Needle nose pliers
- Ear wires (2)
- Small needle to weave in ends
Stitch Key
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
tr = treble crochet
sl st = slip stitch
ch = chain stitch
Pattern Notes
- Written in US crochet terms
- Gauge is not important
- I only used .5 mm leather cord and 1mm hemp & leather cord but I encourage you to experiment with different materials!
- Since I’m impatient I chose leather and hemp for this handmade heart shaped earring pattern as they hold their shape and do not require stiffening
Before You Start
I start with a Magic Circle when making these earrings, so if you need help getting started, check out Pinterest. There are a ton of great tutorials available there!
If you’ve never worked with leather, it can seem a bit scary, but don’t be scared! Go for it, just be a little cautious. The leather can break easily if you pull too hard. I might recommend starting out with hemp cord if you’re new to jewelry making for two reasons; it’s a little more forgiving and sometimes it’s a little cheaper than leather.
Crocheted SASSy Sweetheart Earrings Pattern
(Make two)
Start with a Magic Circle (close it up a little bit before starting, until it is about 1/2″)
Round 1: work 1 dc, 2 tr, 1 dc, 3 sc (pull ring closed a bit as it has probably worked its way open a bit), ch 2, 3 sc, 1 dc, 2 tr, 1 dc, 1 sl st
Finish off leaving about a 4″ tail to weave in
Tuck each of the 2 tails through 3-4 stitches on the back of the earring. Do not cut tails yet if you are applying adhesive.
OPTIONAL ~ Apply a small dab of adhesive under tail, let dry then snip the ends off as close to earring as possible.
Attach an ear wire in the center of the “V” on each earring and that’s it, you have a pair of crocheted SASSy Sweetheart Earrings!!
